They will be joined by Thessaloniki acts Once Upon A Winter and Sediment Bruise
Phase is a Newcastle upon Tyne-based Post Punk Revival band.
They debuted in 2008 with their digital single Perdition under Microsoft’s “Playlist Seven” campaign for the release of Windows 7, which was followed by two full-length albums – In Consequence and the Wait. They have aired on BBC by prolific DJ Tom Robinson, while they’ve featured in Billboard, achieving #42 in the ‘Uncharted’ chart and #12 in the “Fastest Rising Act” chart. Phase has performed in Syria and are said to be the second international rock act, after
the Gorillaz, ever to play there. The band has toured across Europe and has shared stages with notable acts such as Anneke van Giersbergen, Danny Cavanagh, Sivert Hoyem (ex-Mardugada), Jeff
Martin (The Tea Party), The Twilight Sad, Antimatter and more.
Phase is stated by reviewers and critics to play within the genres of alternative rock, Psychedelic rock, noise, progressive punk, post
punk, goth rock, post-grunge, space rock, and electro rock. And as of today, they are on their songwriting retreat aiming to the release of their third album.
Once Upon A Winter started out as a solo Post-Rock/Blackgaze project from Thessaloniki, Greece, created by Ilias Kakanis. In 2017, the debut album Selective depression in chase of the Big Bang was released, gathering significant attention with over 150.000 views on the Youtube channel Worldhaspostrock.
In 2018, Once Upon A Winter transformed into a full band. From 2018 to 2019, the band released two more albums, both on digital and physical formats, while signed with the Finnish label Snow Wave Records. Since then, the band performed as a support act for God is An Astronaut in their hometown, Thessaloniki, as well as headlined their own tours in other Greek cities. In November of 2019, the band completed their first European tour performing shows in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy.
In May 2019, the band’s music was part of the theatrical play “Unborn Land”, receiving a cultural award from the UNESCO Club of Piraeus and Islands while in February 2021 they performed with MOYSA youth orchestra in Thessaloniki Concert Hall, in an event organized by the Northern Greece Musicians Union, broadcasted in national television.
The overall sound of Once Upon A Winter ranges from classic post rock with ambient atmospheres and soulful melodies, to gothic, doom, and black metal eruptions with aggressive guitars while still keeping the melodic lines as the main focus.
The fourth album of the band, Void Moments of Inertia, was already composed just before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, eventually slowing down the recordings and pushing back the release date. The band took advantage of this forced time-off, experimenting with different orchestrations to achieve the desired results, providing a fresh perspective on the composed material.
They introduced their new album on February of 2022, with the song Elegant Demise, accompanied by a music video dealing and raising awareness to the issue of Alzheimer’s’ disease and the need to never give up on people. Void Moments of Inertia was released on the 18th of March, 2022. Since then the band had two album presentation live shows in Athens and Thessaloniki.
On October 15, 2022 the band capitalised on the album success by performing as the opening act for the blackgaze giants Deafheaven in Athens.
Sediment Bruise is an indie post-rock band formed in Thessaloniki, Greece, by brothers Nick (guitars) and Michael-Angelo Nikolaidis (keyboards, vocals), who teamed up with other talented musicians, including Vag Mood (vocals), George Moukos (drums) and
Sotiris Fotinitsoglou (violin). Their music draws influence from diverse bands like Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Massive Attack, dEUS, Elbow and Arcade Fire.
In 2007, they released their self-titled, self-produced debut album, garnering positive reviews and performing live across Greece and the UK, earning a devoted fan base.
Their second album, “A New Disease” released in 2016, produced by Clive Martin, continued to showcase their atmospheric post-rock melodies and emotional vocals. They continued their cooperation with Clive Martin in their latest album, “In-Between” whose dreamy, cinematic compositions received critical acclaim and made it to top album lists of 2019 in Greece and abroad.
Sediment Bruise have played gigs in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa, Kozani, Serres), in Europe (Skopje, Sofia, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Baia Mare, Budapest, Satu Mare, Belgrade), with remarkable appearances in the famous Dublin Castle and Water Rats, at London, UK.
Despite facing critical challenges for the past 3 years, including a global pandemic and the financial crisis that followed afterwards, Sediment Bruise returned with a triumphant gig in their hometown’s largest venue, and introduced a new bassist, George Jojo, marking the beginning of the 3rd era of the band.
The band released their 4th studio work, “Heterentropy” EP, on November 8th , 2023. A documentary around their 2019 Eastern European tour will follow in 2024, along with a Greek tour in February-March-April 2023, followed by selected UK tour dates in May 2024.
